What affects the price of a custom 3D figurine?

Two figurines of the same height can need different amounts of material and different printing times. A custom figurine from a photo needs a calculation based on its actual design: a compact pose, a couple and a figure with outstretched arms are different projects.
The Formacara configurator lets you explore a preview, obtain an estimate from a technical model and choose the size. The figurine price and delivery are shown separately. You do not need to calculate the selling price yourself from the estimated weight.
Height and overall dimensions
When the height increases, the model’s width and depth increase proportionally too. A taller figurine may therefore need more material, a different printing time and a larger package. The price does not necessarily rise in a simple proportion to centimetres.
Choose the height after the technical model is ready. If you change it, wait for the new calculation before comparing options. The previous result belongs to a different configuration.
PLA filament and finish
Choose one PLA filament for the whole figurine from the available samples. Different filaments and finishes can have different prices. Select the intended option before generating the preview and check the calculation for your current configuration.
Wood, marble and metal effects describe the filament’s appearance, not solid materials. The figurine remains single-colour; it does not include separate colours for the face, clothing and accessories.
Shape matters, even at the same height
Open arms, thin details and projecting parts may need temporary supports during printing. These hold parts of the object while it is being made and contribute to the material and time required. A base or a second person also changes the overall shape and dimensions.
The technical calculation takes the model’s printing preparation into account. Estimated weight and time help explain the project, but neither is the figurine’s selling price on its own. Very small details may need simplification; choosing a larger size does not guarantee a perfect reproduction of every feature.
Why delivery is separate
The destination, package dimensions and weight affect transport. Showing the figurine price separately makes it easier to compare sizes and finishes. The summary then adds delivery for your selected destination.

Preview, technical model and finished print
The preview is an illustrative image of your idea in the selected filament. The subsequent technical model is used to estimate material and printing time. Neither is a photograph of the finished object: the surface, small features and appearance of the colour may differ.
A clear photo helps reduce uncertainty about the pose and subject. Read our guide to choosing a photo before you begin.
Compare one change at a time
Keep the photo, subject and filament the same, then change the height and allow the calculation to finish. Compare the figurine price first, followed by delivery to the same destination. Changing several options at once makes it harder to see which choice affected the result.
